White Roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa) is widely grown in Mizoram. The slightly sour leaves are added to various dishes (veg and non-veg) to give fresh and distinct flavor. The leaves are processed and sundried for consumption during offseason. In Andhra cuisine, Hibiscus sabdariffa, called gongura, is extensively used. The leaves are steamed along with lentils and cooked with dal. The other unique dish prepared is gongura pachadi, it is prepared by mixing fried leaves with spices and made into a gongura pacchadi, the most famous dish of Andhra cuisine and is often described as king of all Andhra foods. It has been found that roselle has one of the highest levels of antioxidants of any widely available food
